May 18th 08 - North Leverton windmill

After a visit to a rater quiet and disappointing computer fair in town Chris and I decided to make use of a rather impressive sky and head out taking photos. We went over by Retford and down to a spot by the Chesterfield Canal to take some shots of the boats and the lovely houses down by the canal.

Then we checked the map and found a windmill nearby at North Leverton. It was quite impressive and even though t had obviously seen much better days it was still being used occasionally by the local farmers to grind their corn. Its looked after and maintained by the local people, good for them. Its great to see them keeping history alive.

The windmill itself is open on Saturdays for you to go inside. At the same time as Chris and I were taking photos there were two women having a look round, one giving a short tour to the other one. After a short while they came over and asked if we were windmill enthusiasts too....never before have I sounded cooler saying "no, I'm into photography" :)

Its a lovely old mill - I saw it in Chris' photostream last night and liked it. Your treatment here makes it look convincingly like an old picture.
